Where does the time go? When you think you've got plenty of time to get fit and prepare appropriately for an event, think again... That's what I thought last month, 8 weeks out from 2014 Taupo Ironman on March 1st. Now here we are 3 weeks away and the taper for this event begins next week.
My last post stated that I was just starting a solid 3 week block building bike and run mileage. It's going okay, never to plan of course... But I have hit some long rides and runs and feel like I've made some endurance progress. Longest bike so far, 180.5km (all hills and wind), and a 34km run, with a 5.3km seaswim sandwiched in there too.
I also competed in the Anakiwa triathlon 2 weeks ago as a short, hard hitout for a change from the long stuff. Also a good chance to put the sports all back to back and to remind the mind about what nerves are.
It went well enough with nothing going wrong besides the heavy rain coming in during the run. I finished 2nd overall after a good battle with the 3rd place getter throughout all 3 legs.
So the next 7-9 days will see some final key sessions completed and some finishing touches on the training, whilst the overall volume begins to decline.
Time for carb loading dinner now, before another big ride, solid run and long swim or 2 this weekend.
Train long, be strong, power on.
